Abstract
396,390. Turbidometers. MOSS, E. B., 19, Leys Road, Cambridge, and CAMBRIDGE INSTRUMENT CO., Ltd., Cambridge. Feb. 1, 1932, No. 3020. [Class 97 (iii).] Apparatus for the detection, measurement, or recording of suspended particles, e.g. smoke or thin fogs, in a transparent medium comprises an optical system with an illuminating beam which together with the light scattered by the optical parts is prevented from reaching a light sensitive element by stops arranged to allow light scattered by the suspended matter to reach the sensitive element. In the form shown, light from a source a is focused by a lens combination b on to a lens d and is arrested by a stop c, preferably of reflecting material, placed in front of the lens d. The light scattered by imperfections in or dust on the lens b is brought to a focus by the lens d and falls on the stop e. Light falling on suspended particles, e.g. the particle x, between the lenses b, d, is scattered and some of the scattered light is brought by the lens d to a focus at y at which point is placed a light sensitive device such as a photo-electric cell or thermopile.
