Abstract
395,766. Metal-melting furnaces. STANWORTH, S., 198, Briercliffe Road, CLEGG, J. H., Westcliffe, Queen's Park Road, and STANWORTH, J., 15, Reedley Grove, all in Burnley. Jan. 27, 1932, No. 2422. [Class 51 (ii).] In a metal-melting furnace having a feed shaft in which the charge is preheated by the upward passage therethrough of the waste gases from the melting zone D, this latter zone is separated from a combustion chamber B by a removable inclined partition A which is formed with apertures at the upper end for the passage of the heating gases and at the lower end for the flow of molten metal to the collecting well F. The wall of the preheating shaft is formed with an over. hanging lip C to prevent the passage of unmelted metal to the combustion chamber B. The latter is fired by gas, oil, or pulverized-fuel burners E, secondary air being supplied at G. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the well F is offset in relation to the preheating and melting shaft, the flames and hot gases from the burners E passing over the molten bath before contacting with the inclined partition A.
