Abstract
394,897. Rotary brushes. GERHARDT, C. C., 591, Hudson Street, New York, U.S.A. Jan. 13, 1933, No. 1236. Convention date, Sept. 13, 1932. [Class 19.] Rotary wire brushes for cleaning boiler tubes and the like are constructed so that the bristles can be readily renewed. A cylindrical brush stock 2, Fig. 1, has a screw threaded extension 4 for taking the drive, and is slotted at 6, Fig. 2, with partitions 8 to accommodate sets of bristles 10 held in sleeves 12. The bristles are passed into a straight sleeve which is then bent into V-shape and inserted in the stock. The tufts are retained in position by a bolt 18 which carries an end-clamping member 14 and nut. In a modification, Fig. 6, a bristle tuft 10 is used wide enough to fill the entire slot 6 instead of separate tufts. In a further modification, Fig. 9, the brush unit is shortened by having a thin cap 26 with a conical end as the driving member.
