Abstract
394,675. Feeding sheets. POWRIE, W. L., 77A, Nightingale Lane, London. Dec. 24, 1931, No. 35752. [Class 100 (i).] To enable sheets of varying thickness and of different materials to be fed without damage to the impression cylinders of underfed stopcylinder machines, the hinged feed board 6 is provided at its front edge with a hinged flap 4 which is notched to accommodate the grippers 15 of the impression cylinder 1. The sheets are fed when the board 6 and flap 4 are in alignment as shown in Fig. 5, and stops 17, pivoted on the axle 9 about' which the flap is pivoted, register the front edge of the sheet. The board and flap are raised to the position shown in Fig. 3 to permit the grippers 15 to seize the sheet, and then the flap is lowered to bring its upper surface into the plane of the forward inclined surface of a bar 14 which is arranged in the space between the impression and printing surfaces adjacent to the line of printing contact. The bar 14 is notched to form a support for the flap 4. The sheet is smoothed on its passage to the cylinder 1 by passing first over the cylindrical extension 8 of the flap 4, and then over the flap 4 and bar 14. The front stops 17 are moved below the surface of the flap 4 as the flap is lowered.
