Abstract

394,493. Magazine gramophones. NILA SOC. DE GERANCE ET DE REPRESENTATION, 1, Rue de Belgrade, Paris. July 13, 1932, No. 19853. Convention date, Jan. 6. [Class 40 (ii).] A magazine gramophone has an annular cylindrical record magazine wherein the records are disposed in transverse radial compartments and are transferred therefrom singly to a turntable located in the interior of the magazine so that, after the playing of one side, the record is returned to the magazine which is then given a half revolution and the same record is again transferred to the turntable, from the opposite side, in position for playing the reverse side of the record. A cylindrical record magazine, as shown in front view by Fig. 1 and in side sectional view by Fig. 2, has annular ends 1, 1a each formed with a series of radial slots 2 to provide record compartments. The magazine is rotated on ball rollers 5 by means of a crank 6 which produces rotation of a pinion 8 whose teeth engage with holes 9 in the end 1a of the magazine. The records in the upper half of the magazine are retained in position by a rolling band 10 driven by a pulley 11 and guided by a number of guide rollers and a semicylindrical guide plate 12. The gramophone turntable 16 rests on a pedestal 14 disposed in the interior of the magazine and the selected record is brought into the horizontal position and pushed on to the turntable 16 by a pair of claws 17. After playing a record, it is returned to its compartment by the claws 17, the magazine is revolved through 180‹, and the record then pushed on to the turntable by a similar pair of claws 17a for playing the reverse side. The claws engage the portions of. the record which project beyond the ends 1, la of the magazine and are supported for horizontal movement by guides 17b, Fig. 2. Each claw comprises a pair of horizontal limbs connected at their outer ends by a boss 17c having an elongated aperture 17d, Fig. 1, therein. With the claws in normal position, as in Fig. 1, the projecting portions of the records may pass freely between the claw limbs but the free end 17e of each limb is turned upwardly to engage with the projecting portion of a record upon displacement of the claws. Each pair of claws is moved by a pair of connected levers 18 which are pivoted at 19 to the apparatus framework. The levers 18 may be swung about the pivot against the action of a tension spring 27 by means of a handle 20, the movement being limited by a stop 25 and the levers 18 being held in the position with a record above the turntable 16 by a pawl 26. The record is supported temporarily above the turntable 16 by a pair of strips 21, Fig. 2, but the turntable is raised during the last portion of the movement of the levers 18 to engage the record and bring it into contact with a pick-up 28. This vertical movement of the turntable is effected by pins 22 on the levers, 18 which coact with a cam member 23 in contact with the underside of the turntable. After playing of the record is completed, the pawl 26 releases the lever 18 which is returned to the other extreme position by the spring 27.
