Abstract

<PICT:0394049/IV/1> Apparatus for producing artificial filaments such as artificial silk, cotton, wool, horsehair or staple fibre, comprises an outer casing encircling an inner dish - like vessel provided with a plurality of openings communicating with the outer casing, and means for leading a solidifying medium through the casing and inner vessel to and about the face of a spinning jet for the purpose of solidifying the extruded filaments and carrying them away from the jet. As shown in the drawing the solidifying medium, which may be a coagulating liquid or an evaporative gas, passes from a supply pipe B to the interior of a casing C and through ports D to an inner dish-like vessel E, in which is situated a spinning nozzle G. The vessel E is provided with a centrally disposed tube H down which the extruded filaments are carried by the stream of coagulating liquid or evaporative gas. The top of the tube H extends within the vessel E and is shaped to receive the nozzle G. The solidifying medium flows uniformly through the annular cavity F where it is directed to and about the jet face. A cover plate J fits over the vessel E and casing C. The various parts of the apparatus are removably clamped together.
