[Class 117.] In apparatus for the pneumatic separating of solid materials, means provided for preventing the discharge of dust into the atmosphere consist in circulating the air in a closed circuit including a fan b for supplying the air, preferably through pulsator valves c<1> as described in Specification 305,068, [Class 117, Sifting &c.], to the air-chamber c of a table a such as described in Specification 297,757, [Class 117, Sifting &c.], a hood d, pipe f and dust collector t by which the air is withdrawn from the table and partially cleaned, and a shunt i, dust collector j and, preferably, a fan k by which part of the air is cleaned and discharged to the atmosphere. The fresh air necessary to make up the shunted part is admitted through the openings a<3> at the feed point and the regulable inspection openings h near the table and the opening n leading to the return pipe f. In an alternative construction, a third fan may be utilized in the return part of the pipe f to assist in drawing the air from the hood d. The dust-laden air from the peripheral part of this fan is passed through the shunt. Liquid atomizing devices e such as described in Specifications 336,221, [Class 117, Sifting &c.], and 393,970 may be mounted in the hood d. Specification 274,587, [Class 117, Sifting &c.], is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
