Abstract

393,293. Rotary furnaces. BOURDET, A. P. E., 57, Grande Rue, Triel-sur- Seine, Seine-et-Oise, France. Nov. 27, 1931, No. 32971. Convention date, Nov. 28, 1930. Addition to 359,900. [Classes 51 (ii) and 55 (i).] The furnace described in the parent Specification is modified by mounting the two heating- tubes one within the other, or by making one or both of the tubes in this form. The material may be fed first into the inner or the outer tube, and in the latter case, at the delivery end of the outer tube, the material is raised to feed it into the inner one by an external elevator or, as shown in Fig. 3, by vanes t<2>, which discharge the material on to a guide cone t<3>. The heating arrangements are such that the gases and the material flow in parallel through the tube into which the material is first delivered, and in counter current through the outer tube. In the furnace of the Figure, which is more particularly adapted for the partial distillation of wood, gases are withdrawn from the stack by a fan and returned through a pipe w to the final heating-tube. Sand, powdered gypsum, or other inert material may be mixed with the charge to prevent active combustion and this added material is screened off through openings x at the discharge end of the inner tube and returned to the feed end of the outer one. In the form of the invention in which each of the heating tubes consists of two concentric tubes, the materials and heating gases flow in parallel through both parts of the first double tube, and in counter-current through both parts of the second.
