Abstract
<PICT:0392974/III/1> A leather strip 30 for use as a welt in making boots and shoes is coated with a narrow band of adhesive by drawing the strip by feeding and presser rolls across the periphery of an applying roll 18 supplied with adhesive by a transfer roll 12. The strip is supported and pressed against the applying roll by a thrust member 38 forced towards the applying roll by a spring 44. Gauges 46, 50 limit the width and thickness of the band of adhesive applied. The presser roll 32 and the two gauges are raised to introduce the strip, the lifting of the gauge 46 effecting simultaneously the retraction of the thrust member 38.
