Abstract

392,629. Hydraulic transmission of power. SINCLAIR, H., 6, The Crest, Surbiton Hill, Surrey. Nov. 25, 1931, No. 32738. [Class 69 (ii).] A hydraulic coupling or gear has means adapted to reduce the rate of increase of liquid content when the speed of a rotatable member of the coupling increases. In one form, the driving or driven shaft has an enlarged part 11, Fig. 1, provided with radial inlet ports 12, the increase in centrifugal force when the speed of the shaft increases diminishing the inflow of liquid. In a modification, both driving and driven members have radial inlet ports 12d, 35, Fig. 5. In another form, the inflow is controlled by back pressure created in a space 22, Fig. 2, by the circulation velocity in the coupling circuit. The form shown in Fig. 3 has an inlet tube 25 terminating in a radial or tangential mouth disposed in an annular chamber 24; the chamber may be formed by a partition 23, in which case a port 26 is provided. A further form has a chamber 29, Fig. 4, which may have ports 32 for discharging foreign matter, with oblique ports 30. All the above forms have ports 8 or 8a for allowing a continuous flow out of the circuit. The form shown in Fig. 6 has outlet ports 8e controlled by a valve, and the coupling is designed to secure rapid initial filling of the circuit followed by slow filling. The driven member has a vaned inlet passage 41, the casing has a channel 40<1> provided with vanes 48, and ports 47, 46 are provided.
