[Class 140.] A metal article protected with a fibrous layer of asbestos felt, wool felt, &c. has the fibrous layer affixed to the article by an intermediate metallic adhesive. A steel or corrodible metal sheet is coated with a metal of lower melting- point, preferably a non-corrodible metal, such as tin, zinc, lead, cadmium, bismuth or alloys thereof. ' The coated metal sheet is then covered with a layer of fibrous material, the latter being caused to adhere by subjecting the sheet to heat and pressure.
