[Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iii).] Screws, inserting; indexing; mandrels.- A device for holding the polepieces j within the casing l of a dynamo-electric machine during assembly comprises pressure pieces h to which movement is imparted from an axially movable spindle e through toggle links d, g. The screwed spindle e is moved axially by a hand-wheel i and carries a collar f to which one end of each link g is connected, the outer ends of the links d being secured to a sleeve c surrounding the spindle. When the assembled body is held by the pressure pieces h a ratchet screw driver p is swung over the shaft e by rotation of its supporting shaft n to secure the polepieces by screws m, the holder being rotatable to bring each polepiece in turn into position where it is retained by a pin s engaging the corresponding recess t. A member v may engage any of the slots q in the shaft n to permit vertical adjustment thereof, the slots q permitting limited rotational movement of the shaft.
