Abstract

390,100. Antifriction-wheel and thrust bearings. SKERRETT, H. N., 24, Temple Row, Birmingham.-(Timken Roller Bearing Co. ; Denber Avenue, Canton, Ohio, U.S.A.) Nov. 5, 1932, No. 31246. [Class 12 (i).] A bearing for paper dryer and other rolls has a housing 2 receiving the neck 1 of the roll A, a wear ring 22 resting on a roller 20 journalled in the housing 2, and means on the housing preventing excessive end-wise movement of the neck 1. As shown, the wear ring 22 is shrunk on the neck 1, and end-wise movement is prevented by bushing rings 29 interposed between the ring 22 and flanges 27 on end caps 23 bolted to the housing. The wear ring 22 is supported by two rollers 20 carried by roller bearings 21 supported by pins 13 mounted in the end walls of the housing 2, the pins 13 having a flat surface 14 to prevent rotation. The housing 2 has a curved bottom 8 supported by the mill frame 3 and is rockably held to the frame 3 by bolts 9 passing through clearance holes 10 in lugs 11. The neck bearing at the other end of the roll A has the rings 29 omitted so that expansion of the roll under heat is permitted. In a modification, the pins 13 are supported in the end caps 23. In another modification, the rollers 20 are solid and have end journals supported in roller bearings which at one end are carried by the housing and at the other end are carried by caps bolted to the housing.
