[Class 38 (v).] A thermal indicating instrument C such as described in Specification 383,017 which gives an indication of the load on the circuit controlled by a circuit-breaker, is combined with the trip coil A of the circuit-breaker, and has contacts C<1> controlling a shunt circuit across the trip coil in such a manner as to cause instantaneous operation of the circuit-breaker for exceptionally large overloads and inverse- -time operation for normal service overloads. The shunt circuit may include a fuse or, as shown, a non-inductive resistance D.
