Abstract

389,176. Thermionic valves. OCTRON, Ltd. and HOLT, W., Tyburn Road, Erding- ton, Birmingham. Nov. 6, 1931, No. 30756. [Class 39 (i).] The branches of a hairpin or like filament are maintained taut by a floating spreader of insulating material inserted be tween them so as to spread the branches apart and be supported by them, the arrangement being such that substantial clearance is left between the filament and grid supports and the spreader, which is thus perfectly free to move with the filament. As shown, the spreader consists of a mica plate 2 with V-shaped notches 3 receiving the branches 1 of the filament. The spreader is inserted between turns of the grid 4, and the edges are slightly spaced from the anode 5 ; vertical and lateral displacement are thus prevented.
