Abstract

388,572. Wrenches ; pliers. ROSS, J. E., 172, Cornbrook Street, Brooks Bar, Manchester. Feb. 29, 1932, No. 5996. [Classes 61 (ii) and 61 (iii).] Crossed-handle pliers or pincers having concave jaws 11, 12 for gripping small work 18 have the jaws extended to form additional convex jaws 22, 14 which cooperate with a chain 20 to form a chain-wrench for gripping larger work 19. One concave jaw 11 is serrated and the other 12 plain and partly flat. One convex jaw 14 has ratchet teeth 14 and a pin 21 for fixing one end of the chain, the other convex jaw 22 being shaped to engage the free end of the chain. The concave jaw 12 may be provided with an edge 13 for wire cutting and the convex jaw 22 with a recess 23 for straining wire. One handle 3 is bent at 15 to pass between the two parts of the other handle 4 and has holes whereby the handles may be fixed in gripping position by a pin 17 thus leaving the hands free for turning the wrench. The opening of the tool may be varied by a pin 5 engaging holes 6. The gripping members of the jaws may be formed on hardened plates attached by rivets 25.
