Abstract

388,080. Pipe couplings. REID, W., REID, R. H., and REID, W., Greenfield Foundry & Engineering Works, Burnbank, Hamilton, Lanarkshire. Sept. 14, 1931, No. 37708/30. [Class 99 (i).] A coupling for pipes 2, 21 comprises a two-part housing 1 which is formed internally at its two ends with conical raceways 3 each converging in a direction away from the opposed one and accommodating a plurality of balls 4 which are caused to bite into the end of one of the pipes. Each series of balls is maintained in position by a split cage 5, 5<1> which fits into the raceway and is formed with a plurality of slots 6 through which the balls project, and a segmental ring 7, 71 which is formed with a number of laterally projecting spring blades 8 engaging the balls is also fitted within each raceway.
