Abstract

In jigger dyeing-machines the winding of the cloth on one roller while being paid out from the other roller is automatically controlled by cam action operated at a desired speed from the main shaft, so that when the winding of the fabric in one direction is complete the driving gear is automatically reversed and the fabric is wound in the opposite direction. The windings are continued for any predetermined number of reversals when the machine is automatically arrested. A cam drum 2, having cam surfaces 2a corresponding in number to the desired number of reversals of the winding rollers, and its driving wheel 3 are keyed to a shaft 3a mounted to revolve loosely in bearings 3b, 3c. A sleeve 10 splined to the driving shaft 9 is moved by the cam 2a so as to engage the clutch 11a with the wheel 11 and so drive the wheel 13 and shaft 15 carrying one roller, or to engage the clutch 11b with the wheel 12 and so drive the wheel 14 and shaft 15a carrying the other roller. The roller 15a is connected to the shaft 21b through the wheel 17b, clutch 18a, shafts 18, 20b, so that the arm 22 or 22a (the position of which may be adjusted for various lengths of cloth), is brought into contact with the incline 23a on the lever 23 according to the direction of rotation of the roller 15. Depression of the <PICT:0387784/IV/1> <PICT:0387784/IV/2> lever 23 causes the plate 25 to rise against the action of a spring and raises one of the arms x extending from one of the bolts 7 mounted radially in the cam drum 2 and so moves the bolt 7 back against its spring clear of a sliding bar 27. Thus the bar 27 is permitted to move the forked arm 28 and so move the clutch 8w into gear with the sprocket 8a, whereby motion is transmitted from the main shaft 9 through the shaft 8 and sprocket 8b to the wheel 3 and cam 2, until the next bolt 7 comes in contact with and presses back the bar 27. At this time the projecting arm x on the bolt 7 comes in contact with the notch 25d on the plate 25 causing the disc 25 to recede against a spring until the end of the bolt 7 has reached the outermost point 27b of the bar 27, when the arm 22 or 22a moves out of contact with the arm 23 and therefore the plate 25 is forced downwards, coming underneath the arm x where it resumes its normal position and lifts the arm x, thus freeing the bar 27. Spring bolts 4 are mounted in the drum 2 and one of them is pressed outwardly by a cam 5, Fig. 7, which is fixed on a manually operated shaft 5a rotated by a hand-wheel 5b, the position of the cam being indicated by a pointer 6a on a dial 6b. When the bolt 4 which is pressed outwardly comes in contact with the bar 27, the bar is pressed back and motion to the cam 2 is stopped with the sleeve 10 in mid position so that the rollers come to rest. When the machine is at rest, operation of a wheel 40 disengages the sleeve 10 from the cam and also the clutch 18a, so that the part may be reset as desired. Weights are provided to retard the motion of the unwinding roller and these work automatically with reversal of the direction of the rollers.
