Abstract

A lacquer for coating metal wires &c. is made by dissolving a phenol-aldehyde resin (in the A stage) together with tricresyl phosphate in one or more of the high boiling solvents glycerin, triacetin, turpentine, or dicresylin. Organic acids such as acetic or lactic acid or lactic anhydride, or cellulose esters, e.g. acetyl cellulose, may be added in small amounts. The resulting lacquer may be mixed with a solution of an oil-soluble phenol-aldehyde resin in a drying oil.
