[Class 18.] A metal crate for holding milk and other bottles, particularly in a bottle-washing machine, of the kind comprising upper, lower and intermediate frames connected to angle-iron corner pieces a, the intermediate frames having longitudinal and transverse partition members forming compartments each holding one bottle, has one at least of the intermediate frames constructed of four separate outer members d, e with beaded upper edges d<1>, e<1>, longitudinal partitions f beaded at f<1>, and transverse partitions g which pass through slots in the members f. The transverse partitions g consist of strips, the planes of which are vertical except at the points where they pass through the members f, where they are twisted through 90‹ so that the slots in the members f are horizontal. The outer ends of the members g pass through the outer members d, the ends being turned over to lie against the outer face. The longitudinal strips f are also arranged with their planes vertical and the bead is discontinued at the end to form tongues h which pass through horizontal slots in the outer members e and are there turned over. The outer members of the intermediate frames are set back from the outer faces of the crate. The upper frame b is of angle section and handles are riveted or welded to it. Projections k serve to enter recesses in the bottom of another crate to facilitate stacking.
