Abstract
385,012. Spring mechanism. MILLER, D., 8, Wellesley Villas, Ashford, Kent. Aug. 6, 1931, No. 22276. [Class 10.] A driving mechanism for model aeroplanes and mechanical toys comprises a helically wound, stressed member, and means associated therewith and arranged to be displaced by the slackening in tension in said member, consequent upon its running down, to set into operation another stressed member for driving the same driven member. The invention is shown as applied to a model aeroplane driven by two sets 1, 2 of twisted rubber strands, the upper of which comes into operation when the lower has unwound. The propeller is freely mounted on a shaft B, and is driven by the lower set of bands through a pin coupling A until this coupling is broken by the sliding of the shaft under the action of a spring G, this sliding being permitted by the elongation of the strands as they unwind. The shaft L of the upper set of strands is meanwhile locked by the abutment of a key K thereon with a sleeve C, a downwardly extending arm on which co-operates with a collar on the lower shaft B to cause the sleeve to partake of the sliding motion of that shaft. Simultaneously with the disabling of the coupling A, the sleeve releases the upper shaft L and renders a pin coupling F effective to connect the shaft to the propeller through a pinion D meshing with a gear E rigid with the propeller.
