Abstract

384,787. Hose reels. KNOWSLEY CAST METAL CO., Ltd. and MUNDELL, F., 24, Lower Moss Lane, Hulme, Manchester. Dec. 3, 1931, Nos. 33469/31 and 669/32. [Class 99 (ii).] Water supplied through a hollow pillar bl passes through apertures b<2> into one arm d<5> of a pair of arms c, d forming a U-shaped bracket, the arms being secured in a machined boss c rotatable about the pillar b<1> and provided with packings c<2> and glands c<1>, c<3> to make watertight connection therewith. The supply arm d<5> terminates in a pedestal d<6>, d<7> accommodating a spigot and trunnion device e through which water flows to a hollow spoke g<ix> communicating with a hose union g<6>. The hollow spoke g<ix>, with other tubular-spokes, is let into a boss g<5> rotatable on the spigot and trunnion e and the spokes support a peripheral tube g to form a wheel-like structure, the hose drum f being disposed between and supported by the structure and a similar one supported by a trunnion c<8> on the other bent arm c<5>. The reel is carried by either a wall bracket a having a concavity a<1> in which the water supply pipe b is disposed or by a base adapted to be fixed to a fire-engine &c., the machined boss in this latter case being formed closed at the top and resting on a ball or roller bearing.
