[Class 132 (iii).] A joke pencil comprises a detonating device c carried by a rod a, normally held in the case g, by a head f thereon eccentrically engaging a catch plate h, against the tension of a spiral spring b mounted between discs o, e, the former being fixed to and. the latter loose on rod a. Pressure on the pin l simulating a lead causes the head m thereof to contact with and direct the head f through the plate h, whereupon the rod a moves out of the casing until held by a stop n, the striker arm i, Fig. 1, being rotated by a spring to hit the percussion cap k. Loading is effected by inserting a cap k, rotating the striker i to its stressed position and pushing the rod a inwards until the head f is held by the plate h.
