Abstract

Bituminous paint or compositions are prepared by mixing with finely divided siliceous earth such as kieselguhr, or with a finely divided mixture of such earth and asphalt, a bituminous emulsion prepared with humic acid or similar substances as described in Specification 317,496, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.]. Examples: (1) a bituminous emulsion containing 50 per cent petroleum asphalt or coal-tar pitch and prepared with humic acid is mixed with (a) 4 or 6 per cent of kieselguhr, (b) 10 or 20 per cent siliceous earth, or (c) 2 per cent of a mixture of siliceous earth and asphalt; the smaller proportions in (a) and (b) give products applicable with a brush, the larger proportions products constituting filling masses applicable with a palette-knife: (2) a bitumen dispersion prepared with acid, brown, alkali-soluble, high molecular constituents of beech-wood tar is mixed with 6 per cent of kieselguhr to form a product which can be applied with a palette-knife to fill joints or to cover stone surfaces. Specification 367,782, [Group V], is referred to. The Provisional Specification states that the bituminous composition may be prepared by emulsifying the bitumen with the aid of finely divided silica, and humic acid or like substance, as emulsifying agents, or may be prepared with one of these agents and re-emulsified with the other agent.ALSO:Bituminous compositions are prepared by mixing with finely divided siliceous earth such as kieselguhr, or with a finely divided mixture of such earth and asphalt, a bituminous emulsion prepared with humic acid or similar substances as described in Specification 317,496, [Class 22, Cements &c.]. Examples:-(1) A bituminous emulsion containing 50 per cent petroleum asphalt or coal-tar pitch and prepared with humic acid is mixed with 6 per cent of kieselguhr, 20 per cent siliceous earth, or 2 per cent of a mixture of siliceous earth and asphalt, to produce filling masses applicable with a palette-knife. (2) A bitumen dispersion prepared with acid, brown, alkali-soluble, high-molecular constituents of beech-wood tar is mixed with 6 per cent of kieselguhr to form a product which can be applied with a palette-knife to fill joints or to cover stone surfaces. Specification 367,782 is referred to. The Provisional Specification states that the bituminous composition may be prepared by emulsifying the bitumen with the aid of finely divided silica, and humic acid or like substance, as emulsifying agents, or may be prepared with one of these agents and re-emulsified with the other agent.
