Abstract
381,918. Veterinary parturition appliances. RANSY, U., Stavelot, Belgium. April 2, 1931, No. 10021. Convention date, April 4, 1930. [Class 8] (ii).] An appliance for assisting parturition in cows comprises a padded frame i applied to the hindquarters of the animal, a pair of interconnected tubes k rotatably mounted in a vertical channel section frame n, and ratchet-driven drum and cable traction mechanism s, r. Rods y, connected to the frame i by ball-and-socket joints j, are slidably secured in the tubes k by pins q and are cushioned therein by springs k<1>. The tubes k are connected by a strap l and by a hoop rotatably secured in the channels of the frame n. The traction mechanism is connected to rods x passing into and adjustably secured in the tubes k by pins inserted into holes y<1>. The drum r is rotated by a hand-lever t carrying a pawl u engaging a ratchet wheel v. Ratchet mechanism w prevents unwinding of the cable. Alternatively two drums in line, each carrying a cable, and rotated by a single lever carrying two pawls may be provided, the drums being rotatable together or, by lifting the appropriate pawl, separately as required. The apparatus is moved on castors o on depending portions of the frame n.
