Abstract

381,318. Electrolytic cells. LEEMANS, J. P. and SOC. GENERALE METALLURGIQUE DE H O B O K E N , Hoboken-lez-Anvers, Belgium. Sept. 23, 1931, No. 26546. [Class 41.] A cell is provided with electrode supports consisting of insulating slabs 8 of natural or artificial acidresisting stony material, such as granite, quartzite, or ceramic material. The slabs should preferably be of high resistance to crushing. The cell has wooden walls 1 surmounted by beams 10 having grooves 9 into which the lead lining 2 is bent. Asphalt is run into the groove and forms a layer 11 on which, while still molten, the slabs 8 are placed. The anodes are provided with pairs of lugs 5 which rest respectively on the right-hand slab 8 and on a conductor 7 mounted above the left-hand slab. The cathodes are suspended from rods 6 supported by the left-hand slab and the righthand conductor.
