April 1, 1932, No. 9441. Convention date, April 1, 1931. [Class 38 (v).] A moisture-sensitive switch comprises a contact arm 2 pivoted at 6 and carrying a contact bridge 4 which is urged into contact with fixed contacts 5 by a spring 3. A hempen cord 7 is connected to the arm 2 and to an adjusting screw 8. On the admission of moisture to the cord 7 it contracts and opens the switch. The switch is suitable for placing at the bottom of the container of an oil switch when the circuit controlled may operate an alarm to indicate the accumulation of water, or may open the circuit-breaker. Other moisture-sensitive elements may be used, such as a rod which expands on becoming moist, or a soluble salt.
