Feb. 8, 1932, No. 3726. Convention date, Feb. 7, 1931. [Class 38 (iii).] Travelling to predetermined limits.-In a switching device for motor operated valves whereby the motor may be switched off when a predetermined valve position, or a certain resistance to further movement is attained, an essential rotatable member, such as a worm, worm wheel, nut, or screwed spindle is arranged to be axially displaced when the driving torque exceeds the limit so as to cause a friction flange, as 31, on the rotary part to engage a coaxial friction member, as 32, which operates the switch, as 35, by means of a radial arm or gearing. In the arrangement shown, when the axial movement of the screwed spindle 21 is unduly constrained or arrested, as by the closure of the valve, the nut 24 moves up, against the action of the spring 28, and carries the rotating friction plate 31 into contact with the friction plate 32 engaged by toothed gear 34 with the switch 35. A modification is shown in which the rotary screwed spindle itself moves axially to engage the friction surfaces operating the switch.
