Abstract

380,349. Sledges ; skis. ROBINSON, T. F., of Siesta Co., Harrogate. Feb. 8, 1932, No. 3640. [Class 108 (i).] In order to facilitate steering in sledges and the like the front runners 5 which are pivoted to the main runners 4 at 6 are connected to spring blades 1 carried by the body of the sledge the spring blades being flexible in a direction horizontal and transverse to the vehicle but inflexible in a vertical direction. The blades 1 are connected together across the front of the sledge by a bar 9 and the front runners are braced by cross braces 11, the connections being such as to allow sufficient play. Figs. 7 and 8 show the application of the invention to a toboggan in which the runners are replaced at the front by pivoted flat boards 17 and the spring blades 21 connected to the body 16 being adapted to slide in guides 22 carried by a cross-bar 19 attached to the boards. In the case of skis the front board 17 which is pivoted to the main skid at 18 is controlled by a spring blade such as 21, Figs. 7 and 8, and the skis may be steered by means of a yoke or a tiller attached to the board 17 and provided with wires which pass through fairleads on the ski and belt worn by the skier.
