Abstract
A flux for soldering comprises a paste formed by mixing a metal etching acid, e.g. hydrochloric, phosphoric, or lactic acid, with an emulsifying agent, e.g. wool fat, bone tar oil, olive oil, or an ester of a higher fatty acid. Other fluxing agents such as zinc chloride, tin chloride, lithium bromide, aniline hydrochloride, beeswax, or resin may be added and the desired consistency may be obtained by the addition of a vehicle such as starch paste, petroleum jelly, tallow, lard, castor oil, lubricating oil, whale oil, paraffin wax, carnauba wax, or stearic acid. A flux consisting of an emulsion of hydrochloric acid and wool fat preferably containing also zinc chloride and petroleum jelly is described.
