Abstract
378,392. Arranging cigarettes for packeting. AKTIEBOLAGET G. AREHNS MEKANISKA VERKSTAD, 20, Alstr÷mergatan, Stockholm. May 8, 1931, No. 13640. Convention date, May 9, 1930. [Class 94 (i).] Oval cigarettes and like articles are arranged with their major transverse axes in parallel inclination to facilitate packing. The cigarettes a, Figs. 1 and 2, gravitate downwards in compartments 2 below a hopper 1, the bottom row being transferred by a plunger 8 into compartments 7 on a slide 5 movable on a bar 4. As the slide 5 moves to the right, Fig. 1, undulations 12 or friction surfaces contact with the lower surfaces of the cigarettes in the compartments and tend to rotate them in a clockwise direction. The width of the chambers is such that the cigarettes are finally compelled to occupy a uniformly inclined position. In order to accelerate the action, the bar 4 may be moved to the left as the slide moves to the right. In a modified form, the slide 4 may be replaced by a belt, and another belt may act on the top edges of the cigarettes.
