Abstract
378,175. Mine props. MACBETH, G., 21, Hill Road, Dykehead, Shotts, Lanarkshire. July 14, 1931, No. 20169. [Class 20 (ii).] Telescopic pit props of the type comprising inner and outer tubular sliding members in which adjustment is made by a rotatable cam sleeve mounted on the outer member, have pins placed in holes arranged spirally in the inner member, and the sleeve is resiliently mounted. The sleeve c, having upper helical surfaces f, supports cross pins el, e<2> projecting from some of a series of spirally arranged holes disposed at a pitch equal to the depth of the cam surfaces in the inner sliding member b, and a spring washer is interposed between the sleeve and the top of the outer prop member, so that it may give after the upper end r<1> of the prop has engaged the roof. The sleeve may be turned by levers or l. In a modification, Fig. 10, friction packing t<2> is interposed between the sleeve and the top of the outer prop member and a coned surface v<1> is provided on the sleeve. The top v<2> of the outer prop member may also be coned.
