Abstract

376,631. Grinding-wheels. TUREK, J., Steinbach, Meiningen, Germany. Dec. 14, 1931, No. 34598. [Class 60.] A wheel for performing simultaneous grinding and polishing operations, particularly on knife blades or other metallic surfaces, is provided with a body 1 of wood or similar rigid d fibrous material fitted with a number of inserted abrasive portions 2 which do not project from the body so that the material being ground encounters successively the wheel body and the hard abrasive inserts. In a modification, Fig. 5, for peripheral grinding, the body consists of two portions 10 and the abrasive inserts 13 are mounted radially in the body. In another modification, Fig. 3, a wheel similar to that shown in Fig. 2 is mounted in a container 3 for cooling water and is provided with depressions 4 which pick up water containing abrasive material detached from the wheel and discharge it over the work 5 during operation.
