Abstract

376,313. Distributers for sand &c. JOHNSTON, J. T. M., London House, Crutched Friars, London. April 8, 1931, No. 10410. [Class 6 (i).] A distributer for sand &c. comprises a pair of road wheels 10 coupled by a rotatable axle 12 having a driving connection with one or both wheels, a cylindrical brush 14 mounted on the axle to rotate therewith, and a hopper 15 carried on bearing brackets 16 for the axle. In the front sloping side of the hopper is a delivery opening 17 extending the full length of the brush and situated above and in front of the axle. The opening 17 is controlled by hinged shutters 21 independently operated by hand-levers 25 and link-and-lever mechanism 22, 23, 24, the levers 25 being provided with spring-operated detents engaging toothed racks 27 mounted on a frame 28 constituting a handle for pushing the apparatus. A low partition 29 divides the hopper. The sand &c. falls from the brush upon an inclined delivery plate 30 supported by resilient metal strips 31. A strut 33 supports the hopper while it is being filled, and guard plates 34 prevent the sand &c. from reaching the wheel bearings. The apparatus may be provided with a draw-bar or may be self-propelled.
