Abstract

376,284. Imitation marble &c. NEWMAN, N. E., Cedar Knolls, Bronxville, New York, U.S.A. Jan. 2, 1931, No. 222. [Class 100 (ii).] Printing processes; transferring designs.- Slabs or panels imitating marble, tiling, &c. are manufactured from a base material consisting of comminuted asbestos and a binder, by drying the material, immersing it in a waterproofing bath, drying, applying a filler and then a coating of lacquer, smoothing the surface, transferring to the surface by decalcomania or printing thereon by a photogravure process a marble, tile, &c. pattern, applying a protective coating over the pattern,. and polishing the coating. The waterproofing liquid may consist of a vegetable oil, such as linseed oil or Chinese wood oil, thinned by the addition of naphtha. The design may be transferred by offset-printing from an etched metal plate or an etched piece of marble.
