Abstract

375,954. Energy-absorbing elements. HAVILLAND, G. DE, White House, Stanmore, and DE HAVILLAND AIRCRAFT CO., Ltd., Stag Lane Aerodrome, Edgware, both in Middlesex. May 22, 1931, No. 15193. [Class 103 (i).] A collapsable metal tube 5 corrugated throughout a part or the whole of its length is combined with resilient shock-absorbing means for aircraft, the tube 'being adapted to come into operation at a predetermined load which is in excess of that which the resilient means is designed to accommodate. Superimposed rubber blocks 2 are housed within a streamline casing 1 provided at its upper end with a bracket or shackle 3 for attachment to the body of the aircraft. A portion of the inner telescopic member 4 may be associated with any energydissipating device. The collapsing load may be equal to three times the normal weight of the aircraft.
