374,923. Heating granular material. SOC. DE RECHERCHES ET DE PERFECTIONNEMENTS INDUSTRIELS, 87, Avenue Wilson, Puteaux, Seine, France. March 12, 1931, No. 7686. Convention date, April 4, 1930. [Class 64 (ii).] The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes the use of heat exchange apparatus containing solid material, in which the material in relatively large and immovable pieces is traversed by a stream of fluid, the velocity of the fluid stream being increased to prevent the formation of stagnant films about the surfaces of the solid materials. The velocity of the fluid stream is about 30 metres per second when the solid is in pieces of between 20 and 60 mm. diameter. The apparatus comprises chambers 1 .. 4, the heating fluid entering by a pipe a, and being conducted either upwards or downwards through chambers 1, 2 by suitable adjustment of valves v<1> .. v<4>, and upwards only through chambers 3, 4, to an outlet b. The application to heat-exchange apparatus does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
