[Class 83 (iii).] The boring-bar of a cylinder boring or like machine, having feed screws for a tool sleeve mounted in recesses along its length, is protected from turnings by a sheath 2, of elastic material such as leather, which folds or unfolds in concertina form as the tool sleeve 4 is moved along the rod. The sheath is in two parts the ends of which are secured to the sleeve, the upper end of the rod and to a fixed element 5 respectively, an annular space to take the sheath being provided between the main spindle 6 and the rod.
