Abstract

A soap comprises one or more aromatic amino dyes e.g p-phenylene diamine, m-phenylene diamine, an amino-phenol, together with a hydroxyalkylamine soap e.g. ethanolamine stearate. The aromatic amino dye may be sulphonated and the hydroxyalkylamine soap may be added as such or in the form of the free amine and fatty acid. There may also be present thickening agents, e.g. starch or mucilaginous substances, water-miscible solvents for the dye, e.g. alcohol, ethylene glycol mono-ethyl ether, and, when the composition is to be used as a paste, hydrogen peroxide. In an example, 2 lb. triethanol-amine, 16 lb. of diethylene glycol mono-ethyl ether, 52 lb. of water, 30 lb. of stearic acid, 3 lb. of p-phenylenediamine, 0,33 lb. of m-phenylene diamine, 50 lb. of 96 per cent alcohol, and 6,65 lb. of resorcine, are compounded to form a soft soap for dyeing hair black.
