Abstract

A method of carrying out the process of the parent Specification comprises digesting an alkaline-earth aluminate with less than the theoretical amount of acid such as nitric acid for the formation of neutral salts. Thereby a part of the aluminate is first decomposed to give a normal aluminium salt, whereafter the remainder of the aluminate reacts with the normal salt to give a solution containing a basic aluminium salt, from which alumina is precipitated in known manner.
