Abstract
370,977. Slipping clutches. MONTGRAND, L. DE, 66, Chemin de Ste-Marthe, Marseilles, France. Jan. 12, 1931, No. 1044. Convention date, Feb. 21, 1930. [Class 80 (ii).] A coupling which automatically balances driving and resisting torques, allows slip under strain and may be used on a self-propelled vehicle, as a speed reducing gear or as a resilient coupling, comprises a driving drum carrying a series of cam surfaces 1, 2, arranged in multiple rows side-by-side, and suitably staggered, against which are pressed by radial springs 8, assisted by centrifugal force, rows of pivoted shoes 4 carried by a driven member 6. The shoes 4 may carry additional centrifugal masses. There is an even number of cams and shoes the latter operating two at a time at the ends of a diameter and such that one pair of shoes reaches the end of a pair of cam inclines whilst another is making contact. The arrangement of cams and shoes may be reversed in relation to the driving and driven members and facial cams may replace those shown.
