Abstract

370,353. Vehicle running boards. FLEWITT, Ltd. and FLEWITT, J. A., 120, Alma Street, Aston, Birmingham. March 17, 1931, No. 32988. Divided on 368,528. [Class 103 (iv).] For wheeling an invalid chair to or from a space provided in the rear of a motor vehicle, a pair of detachable runways 2 are arranged side by side as shown, the runways being carried flat on top of one or both running boards when not in use. The runways are secured in position for use by pins 8 on a plate 7 which engage in sockets 9 in or near the door opening, and by a hook 5 which braces the lower ends together. The lower ends of the runways may be inclined or curved to meet the ground at a smaller angle, and these parts come over the lower part 11 of the wings when the runways are housed on the running boards. The runways are positioned on the running boards by sockets for the pins 8 and are secured by screw pins. The runways have flanges 4 to guide the chair wheels, and the surface which is uppermost when the runways are secured to the running boards is covered with rubber and fitted with a mat opposite the door openings to preserve the appearance of the car. A drainage hole (not shown) is provided in the runway. The chair may have an adjustable and detachable leg-rest.
