[Class 26.] In apparatus for preventing escape of dust during discharge of a bin into a collector, the lid 3, Figs. 1 and 2, of a-discharge opening is controlled by one or more spring bands 4, and a flexible band 29 slides between fixed side-plates 5 to seal the space between the fixed wall of the collector and the bin. The normal position of the parts is shown in Fig. 1: the band 29 is hinged at 8 both to the hood and to a movable plate 2, the latter being hinged at 7 to the fixed wall 6 and moving between the plates 5, and the band 4 is hinged at 31 to the hood, a guide-plate 12 being provided. The bin 9, which has a cover 15 connected to a hinge 14 by a bracket 70, is attached by a hook 67 to a pin 19 and pushed into the position shown in Fig. 2, where it rests on members 33 and engages the edge 66 of a fixed apertured member 32. The hood 3 opens under the influence of the band 4 and a member 65 strikes an extension 28 of the hinge 14 to open the cover 15 ; the bracket 70 meanwhile passing through a narrow extension of the discharge opening and preventing detachment of the bin. A resilient ring 54, Fig. 10, may be disposed on the front plate 2 and packing 55 may also be provided. In another form, Fig. 5, for use in cases where the bin has a loose lid 37, the bin is placed on a frame 35, hinged at 19 to the plate 2 and held in inclined position by a buffer 36 ; the lid is removed and the plate 2 drawn down by means of a handle 38 to the position shown in full lines, where the frame is coupled to the plate by means of pawls 40. This arrangement may also be adapted for use in cases where the bin has a hinged lid. In a further form, Figs. 8 and 9, the frame 35 has a pivoted ring 42 carrying a pivoted cover 43 and a resilient ring 45, which is lowered on to the bin, after removal from the latter of its loose cover, and coupled to the plate 2 by the interengagement of members 51, 52. The frame 35 may be of the form shown in Fig. 11 ; the ring 42 being secured to the upper portion, which slides in the lower portion 57, a stop 59 and ratchet-and-pawl mechanism 60, 61 being provided together with a pin 64, riding in a slot 63, to prevent relative turning movement of the two portions. The bin may be raised by means of the handles 62, or fluid-operated means.
