Abstract

369,738. Inking-apparatus, MUNRO, R. C. and MUNRO, Ltd., R. W., 103, Cornwall Road, South Tottenham, London. March 13, 1931, No. 7841. [Class 100 (ii).] A doctor blade for use in a printing-machine is supported so that it is adjustable about an axis substantially coinciding with the operative edge of the blade, whereby the edge is always held in the same position relatively to the coacting cylinder, irrespective of the angular adjustment of the blade. A doctor blade 1, which extends the whole length of the plate cylinder, is clamped by screws to a bar 3 which is inserted at each end in a clamp 6 formed integrally with a segment 7. The segment 7 is pivotally connected to a slide 8 by means of a ball 10 provided with a shank 11 rigidly secured in the segment and housed in a boss 12 on the slide 8. The ball 10 is retained in the recess by means of a fibre washer 13 and a clamping disc 14 secured by screws 15. The axis of the ball pivot coincides with the working edge 9 of the doctor blade 1. The segment 7 is provided with a handle 16 and an arcuate guide-slot 17. A stud 19, screwed into the slide 8, is provided with a split portion 20 which engages in the slot 17, and a screw 18 engaging the stud 19 is adapted to lock the segment 7 in selected positions by expanding the split portion 20. Each slide 8 is mounted in guides 21 formed on, or screwed to, the end of a long supporting arm, and is provided with a nut 23 situated between two bosses 24, 25 on the guides 21. A screw 26, provided with a graduated collar 27 to facilitate setting, engages the nut 23, and is slidably supported by the bosses 24, 25. The screw 26 is held resiliently against longitudinal movement by a coiled spring 29 which is retained against the boss 25 by a washer 30 and nut 31 on the end 28 of the screw. The doctor blade 1 can yield against the resistance of the springs 29. The rough adjustment of the doctor blade is achieved by rocking the long supporting arms by such means as worm gearing. The ball joints at each end allow of independent adjustments. Each clamp 6 may be provided with adjusting screws to adjust the doctor blade to and from the cylinder.
