Abstract
369,477. Feeding devices for roller &c. mills. BUHLER GEB, Uzwil, Switzerland. June 5, 1931, No. 16518. Convention date, Sept. 13, 1930. [Class 59.] A device for feeding cacoa, soapy material &c. to a roller mill &c. comprises a tray 3 adapted to be reciprocated in a direction parallel to the nip of the rolls 4. The tray may be free to swing or is mounted on a shaft 7 reciprocated by a member 26, Fig. 5, mounted on a cam-ring 27 fixed to a rotary shaft 25 or by an unbalanced revolving mass 29, Fig. 6, mounted on a bell-crank lever 30. The free end of the tray 3, Fig. 2, is suspended by a chain from one arm 10 of a bell-crank lever the other arm 13 of which is supported by a spring 14 from a feed. shoot 2. The amount of feed passing on to the tray is regulated by a sliding door 12 and an excess of feed in the shoot 2 depresses the tray against the pressure of the spring 14 until the excess has been discharged into the mill whereupon the spring returns the tray to its normal position. The arm 13 and spring 14 may be dispensed with, the amount of feed being regulated by a hand movement of the bell crank 10. A slidable weight attached tc the arm 13 may replace the spring 14. In Fig 4, the side 17 of the shoot is hinged at 18 and is balanced against internal pressure of the material in the shoot by a movable weight 23 and a link 24 may be used to connect the side 17 and tray. Increase of pressure of material forces the side 17 outwardly and consequently depresses the tray to increase the feed opening 11 between the tray and side 17. When the excess has been discharged to the mill the feed opening is restored to its original dimensions.
