Abstract

368,768. Liquid-meters ; electricallyactuated valves. DOUGLAS, J., 31, Bishop's Mansions, Bishop's Park, London. Oct. 31, 1930, No. 3019/32. Divided on 366,915. [Classes 69 (i) and 135.] Apparatus having a member, moving in response to a flow of liquid and which serves to initiate movement or mechanism for controlling the ljqnid flow, is provided with means, operatively connected with the mechanism, for resetting the moving member. In the particular example described, the indicator arm of a liquid meter, after a given amount of liquid has passed, makes contact to close the circuit of an electric motor which operates by reducing gear a plug cock controlling the liquid flow. Cams on the spindle of the plug cock are connected by a Bowden wire to rack gear by which an arm is operated to push back the indicator arm of the meter to its initial position or to an intermediate position from which a smaller total flow is measured before the next cycle of operations is repeated. Figs. 1 and 2 illustrate the rack gear. An arm 52 which resets the indicator arm of the meter is carried at one end of a spindle 51 mounted in a frame 45. The Bowden wire 65 is connected to a frame 46 sliding in the frame 45 and carrying a rack, which engages a pinion on the spindle 51. A complete resetting movement is limited by the contact of an arm 54 on the spindle 51 with an adjustable stop 55 but between two such movements there may be a shorter resetting movement limited by a stop 58, which is withdrawn, when the longer movement is to take place, by movement of the rack or by a second Bowden wire operated by a cam on the spindle of the plug cock. A spring 62 returns the frame 46 to its initial position. Specification 366,915 is referred to. The Provisional Specification describes apparatus in which a meter drives a rack, which in its extreme position releases a pawl and allows a mercury switch in the motor circuit to close, the rack being reset by a spring- loaded arm operated by cams on the driven shaft.
