Abstract

Cold-water-soluble acid tars, or salts thereof, are used as foaming agents with e.g. cement or gypsum mixes in the production of cellular concrete in quantities of 0,3 to 3 per cent. In examples: (1) an acid tar obtained in the manufacture of petrolatum oil is neutralized with limestone, the calcium sulphate separated and the salt used as foaming agent in a mix consisting of Portland cement, sand, and waterglass. (2) an ammonium salt and the cement mix of (1). (3) acid tar from the production of white oil from mineral oil neutralized with calcium hydroxide, and incorporated in an analogous mix to (1). (4) acid tar of (3) neutralized with calcium carbonate and incorporated in a blast furnace cement mix containing disintegrated pumice and water glass. (5) acid tar of (3) neutralized with iron carbonate and incorporated in a mix of clay, brickdust, calcined gypsum, cement, waterglass and kieselguhr. (6) acid tar of (3) neutralized with iron powder and incorporated with blast furnace cement, sand and waterglass. Specifications 315,205 and 319,103, [both in Class 70, Indiarubber &c.], are referred to.
