Abstract

Gramophone records are made from a cellulose derivative and a polyvinyl ester. Softening agents, filling agents, pigments, dyestuffs, natural and artificial resins, mineral or organic fibrous material may be added. Two or more polyvinyl esters may be used, together with two or more cellulose derivatives. In an example 370 parts of a highly viscous cellulose acetate in acetone are mixed with 550 parts of a 30 per cent solution of highly viscous polyvinyl acetate, and 50 parts of a low viscosity polyvinyl acetate added. The solvent is evaporated and the dried product powdered and moulded. A transparent record showing pictures &c. or in postcard form can be made by sticking thin pressed sheets of the above composition on an intermediate layer of another material.
