367,368. Mixing, emulsifying, etc.; centrifugal machines. SERGEANT, W. R., Clacton House, Heath Park Road, Romford, Essex, and BURT, BOULTON, & HAYWOOD, Ltd., Salisbury House, London Wall, London. Oct. 16, 1930, No. 30979. [Classes 23 and 59.] A machine for mixing, emulsifying, homogenizing, comminuting, &c. consists of relatively rotatable members one of which is fitted with beaters located at intervals on concentric circles, while the other is furnished with annular webs having projections thereon extending towards each other whereby restricted spaces are formed through which the beaters pass. Figs. 1 and 2 show views at right-angles of one form in which a rotary member 6, in the form of a disc, is provided with projections 7, of streamline form, which pass between the projections 11 on the annular webs 10 of a fixed member 9. The member 6 rotates in a casing one wall of which is formed by the member 9 which can be adjusted axially by means of bolts 22, and secured by bolts 17 and nuts 18, 20, to vary the clearance between the beaters 7 and projections 11 the surfaces of which are for this purpose tapered. The material may be fed through a port 12 and discharged centrally, or vice-versa, the webs 10 being gapped at 14, 15 to permit the flow; the chamber may be jacketed. In another form the webbed member rotates and the webs are provided with a number of gaps to permit the passage of the material through the machine.
