Abstract

367,164. Ball and roller bearings. BRITISH TIMKEN, Ltd. and WOOD, F., Cheston Road, Aston, Birmingham. Feb. 7, 1931, No. 3920. [Class 12 (i).] A bearing of an electric motor or dynamo armature shaft 1 has two sets of rollers 2, 3, or balls, enclosed within a two-part casing consisting of opposed inner and outer cup-like parts 13, 12, respectively, carrying the outer race rings 10, 11, the outer part 12 being detachable from the inner part 13 to enable the inner race or races to be removed. As shown the two part casing is secured to the end cover 29 of the machine so that when the cover is removed the armature together with the bearing complete may be removed from the machine casing. The inner race ring 4 has a groove 9, or projections, for engagement with a tool when it is desired to withdraw it off the shaft 1. The casing parts have sleeves 16, 17 with oil-retaining grooves 20, closely surrounding rings 18, 19, fixed to the shaft 1, and the ring 18 has a ring 33 with a flange 35 engaging a groove 36 in the sleeve 16. Instead of being conical the rollers may be cylindrical and have means for taking end thrust. In a modification the inner casing half 13 is integral with the end cover 29, the' flange of the outer half 12 being secured to the outside of the cover 29.
